What Nails Says About You

What do your nails say about your health (the following is excerpted from - and added to - Bate's, a medical text book):



Black streaks:

Can be a sign of heart trouble.





Blue nails:

Bluish nail beds can be a sign of respiratory problems, such as emphysema or even asthma.

A dark blue line in the nail can be a sign of skin cancer.





Brittle nails:

Signify possible iron deficiency and thyroid problems, impaired kidney function, and circulation problems.





Brittle, soft, shiny nails without a moon:

May indicate an overactive thyroid.

Chipping, peeling, cracking or breaking Nails:

Indicator of nutritional deficiency and insufficient hydrochloric acid and protein.

Minerals are also needed.





Darkening of nails:

May be a sign of insufficient vitamin B12.





Dark lines under the nail:

May indicate melanoma.





Depression in the nails:

Possible sign of psoriasis.





Downward curved nail ends:

Possible heart, liver, or respiratory problems. Possible iron deficiency.





Dry and brittle nails:

May indicate a lack of vitamin A, calcium or iron.

Fragile Nails with Horizontal and Vertical Ridges:

Vitamin B deficiency

Excessive dryness, rounded and curved nail ends and darkened nails:

Insufficient intake of vitamin B12





Half white, half pink nails:

Can indicate kidney problems.





Hang nails:

Can be a sign of a lack of protein, folic acid, or vitamin C.





Horizontal ridges (sometimes referred to Beau's lines):

Can indicate circulatory problems, such as Raynaud's disease, or diabetes.

Can also be caused by a severe illness, like a high fever or pneumonia.





Inversion of the nail:

Can indicate lung problems.





Nails separated from the nail bed:

A nail coming off the nail bed can be an indication of thyroid disorder, psoriasis, or an allergic reaction to nail products

Nails raised at the base ("clubbing") with small white ends:

show a respiratory disorder such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. ("Clubbing" with lung disorders is one condition of the nails that is recognized by Standard Medicine.)





Pale, white nail beds:

Can be an indicator of anemia or liver problems.





Pits in the nails:

Possible sign of psoriasis.

Red beds:

a possible indicator of heart disease





Reddish-brown spots:

Can indicate a deficiency of folic acid, protein or vitamin.





Red lines at the base of the nail fold:

Can be a possible sign of lupus or connective tissue disease.





Ridges:

Possible infection.

Vertical ridges can be caused by iron deficiency, poor absorption of vitamins and nutrients. They can be an indicator of overall poor health or they could be a sign of kidney trouble.

Vertical ridges, as well as bumpy nails, can also indicate a tendency to develop arthritis.

Ridges running horizontally across the nail can indicate physical or mental stress.





Rippling of the nail surface:

May indicate psoriasis or arthritis.

Splitting nails:

may indicate hydrochloric acid deficiency.





Vertical ridges:

Not usually a cause for concern; however these ridges could be a sign of iron deficiency.





White, pale nail beds:

Can be an indicator of anemia or liver problems.





White lines across the nail:

May indicate a liver disease, possible heart disease, high fever, or arsenic poisoning.

White bands:

Can indicate protein deficiency.





White spots:

White spots or white lines could be symptoms of a serious disorder - but in most cases are caused by iron or zinc deficiency. To rule out a serious disease, it's best to see a doctor who should also test your levels of iron and zinc. Zinc supplements are found in any drugstore. Iron intake should be monitored by your physician.





Yellow nails:

Can indicate internal disorders long before other symptoms appear. Some of these are problems with the lymphatic system and liver disorders.

Yellow, thick, slow-growing nails are a possible indicator of respiratory problems.

Yellow-tinted nails with blue color at the base may be a sign of diabetes.





Supplements for Healthy Nails:



Of all the nutritional supplements touted for treating nails that split, break, and peel, only one has gotten a universal thumbs-up from science: biotin.



Biotin, a B-complex vitamin, has long been used to treat damaged hooves on horses. Since our nails are made of the same stuff (keratin), it turns out the vitamin works for us, too.



When dermatologists first put biotin to the test in humans nearly 20 years ago, they found that extra biotin intake could increase nail thickness up to 25 percent in women who had soft or brittle nails.

One study used 2.5 milligrams of biotin daily to help strengthen nails, which is quite a bit -- more than most diets and multivitamins contain.

So if you have soft nails, first ask your doctor how best to increase your biotin intake safely. Mehmet Oz, MD and Michael Roizen, MD, recommend getting 300 micrograms of biotin each day.



However, your diet is always your best and safest source of vitamins and minerals, so if you want to strengthen your nails naturally, try eating more biotin-rich nuts (peanuts, filberts, cashews, and almonds), eggs, soybeans, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, fish (haddock and salmon), or vegetables like chard or carrots. But if your nails are still brittle, investigate a supplement with your doctor.

Love open Doors

"Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13: 8, niv).




According to an article in Today in the Word, soon after Queen Victoria's marriage to Prince Albert, the couple had a quarrel, whereupon Prince Albert locked himself in his private apartment. Queen Victoria knocked furiously on his door.



"Who's there?" asked Albert.



"The Queen of England, and she demands to be admitted."

There was no response and the door remained locked. The queen knocked furiously again.



"Who's there?" asked Albert again. The queen's response was the same … as was Albert's. After more furious knocking and no response came a quiet pause and then a gentle tap.



"Who's there?" asked Albert once more.



"Your wife, Albert," the queen replied. Immediately the door was opened.



As the writer of this article pointed out, "Love opens doors."

Well Done

Theodore Roosevelt said, "It's not the critic who counts, not the one who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of good deeds could have done better.




The credit belongs to the man:



"Who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again... "

Every one of us has been given at least one talent; many have been given several. Regardless of whether we have one or many, what's important is to use well what God has given and entrusted to us and therewith give life our best

Change the Way You Talk to Yourself. Seriously.

Use Empowering Words When You Talk to Yourself, (whether you are speaking out loud or silently)


How do you talk to yourself?



Do you use the words “can’t”, “won’t”, “don’t need to”, “why try”? Many people do.



Do you find that what you say to yourself turns out to be true? Why is this?



You see your brain is like a computer that you feed each day. It doesn’t always know what’s real or not unless you tell it.



Example: If someone you love has hurt you, you may tell yourself that all people who love you will probably hurt you too. You may not even be aware that you are doing this.



Your brain just files this information for reference, it’s data, little zeroes and ones and no column that asks “true or not true?” Now your brain thinks, based on what you told it, that everyone you’ll ever love will hurt you. At the very least it is using this data in its assessment of future situations.



Now, what if we instead told our brain:



“Okay this person ripped my heart out – but that’s only one person. I’m lovable and have many loving people in my life who are not out to hurt me. I know that the right people are coming into my life all the time. If someone hurts me, I will forgive them and bless them on their way.”



Words can be empowering.



I can



I love to



I want to



I will



I must



I am



We can attain a greater quality of life if we feed ourselves empowering words and practice saying them until they become a habit.



I know first hand that it takes time. And I also know that it’s worth it.



Try it for a week. Catch yourself saying, “I can’t”, when you don’t really mean it and instead try, “I can”, and see how you think and feel about yourself.



Remember, the words you use to empower yourself will have a lasting effect, only if you practice them and they become a habit (an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary).



They say it takes at least 28 days to develop a habit. After a week, you will see that it becomes easier. It’s a mindset and you can control your thoughts. Be proactive and not reactive – give yourself some good words.



Dream big and empower yourself! Believe you can and you will.



Most of all, CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!

Women often get so excited about men who show interest in them, are handsome, flattering and show good manners. They “jump the gun” and begin thinking as though this is the man of their dreams. Quite often, these eager women learn that the man of their dreams ends up becoming the devil of their nightmares. Same is true with men who are attracted with women who are sexy, pleasant, very feminine and seem vulnerable. Often too late, men find that the woman isn’t all that she seemed to be in the early days of the courtship.



Some carry red flags that should warn any thinking person to pull back immediately and get away before becoming entangled in a relationship that can only bring grief and torment.



What causes some people (women especially) to plunge into an ill-advised relationship is desperation of never finding a mate. Despite the obvious warning signs, these individuals rush forward like waves of soldiers with intent on dying rather that retreating. Friends look on in horror as they pursue the relationship despite their warnings. Sooner rather than later, they watch helplessly as they crashed and perished.



Some men or women (young ones especially) do not understand that a relationship is a serious matter that can have far-reaching negative consequences. Young people look at love as very desirable when it is done right and it fails as often as it succeeds, at least.



A number of women think they can change a man. They become overly excited over their new-found love that the heady feelings it generates cause them to overestimate their capabilities and to distort reality in order to fit it into their dreams. In the end, they find themselves trapped in an undesirable or worse relationship regretting the day they met the man they fell in love with.



Sad to say, many of these warning signs are clearly visible to anyone who cares to see. But the problem is that when the love bug bites, it causes temporary blindness that often spells disaster. If only people could spot these red flags and have the discipline to step back before love-blindness sets in, they would spare themselves a lot of pain and trouble.

A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Kantzer mentioned to a cashier that they were about to celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary. The cashier said, "I can't think of any man I'd like to live with for 48 years." Mrs. Kantzer replied, "Well, don't marry until you do." That is good advice!




God intends that marriages should last a lifetime. That's why we must choose our life's partner with great care. Even when we make that choice thoughtfully and prayerfully, however, we don't automatically live happily ever after. We must work hard to maintain a good relationship by being unselfish, forgiving, helpful, understanding and kind to one another.



My wife and I have been married 50 years. At our wedding, someone sang a song that included these words: "When we're old and we're gray, we'll be loving the same, we earnestly pray." Well, that is true in our lives. Ginny and I are still very much in love. Yes, we have our disagreements, but we know our relationship is for life. We always try to be forgiving, helpful and kind. And we would be happy for another 50 years.



Some say that marriages are made in heaven. Maybe so, but we must choose carefully and be diligent to maintain our relationship each day. That's the basis for a lifelong happy marriage.



Reflection: A happy marriage requires falling in love many times ..... with the same person.

Tips For Better Living

Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life—learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.



Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.



I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge;that myth is more potent than history;that dreams are more powerful than facts;that hope always triumphs over experience;that laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.



I've always thought anyone can make money. Making a life worth living, that's the real test.



If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you have a problem. Everything else is inconvenience.



Peace is not something you wish for; it's something you make, something you do, something you are, and something you give away.



Play fair. Don't hit people. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.



Sticks and stones will break our bones, but words will break our hearts.



The examined life is no picnic.



The world does not need tourists who ride by in a bus clucking their tongues. The world as it is needs those who will love it enough to change it, with what they have, where they are.

A "father" is someone who:

motivates his child to learn,

develops a child's sense of humor,

holds your hand at the fair,

takes you to sports or dance recital,

makes sure you do what your mother says,

holds back your hair when you are ill,

brushes that tangled hair when mother is occupied,

lets you drink soda instead of milk for breakfast

but only if mother is not around,

calmly walks you down the aisle,

and assures you everything will be fine.

Dress Up For Job Interviews

When we talk about interview for "corporate" jobs, it has to be really formal and classic. Keep in mind that the summer trend does not apply at all.




For women, skirt and blazer or skirt and blouse are preferable. However, if they are not comfortable, wearing pants or slacks is fine. No particular styles or cuts on clothes. Skirt should be knee-length or below the knee. Not too much prints, not too showy, not too sexy and not too informal.



For men, if it’s corporate, of course, coat is most appropriate. If it’s not corporate, to wear a necktie is okay. Prints for necktie, stripes, dotted or plain colors are preferable.



Remain poised



We can't just looked good on our clothes but also with perfect hair or hairdos and proper make-up.



For women, the hair should be clean, in a pony tail or if they want it loose to make sure to have headband or a clip. For the make-up, it should be very light and not too dark.



For men's hair, it should be clean cut or trimmed and should put gel.



For summer days, just bring a jacket. If it’s time for the interview, then you can wear the jacket.

Come prepared for the interview. Make sure your resumé is written perfectly. Do some research about the company and its objectives.

Be relaxed and confident. Be comfortable and should not be tensed. Love what you wear because it will really reflect on you.

படைத்தவர்களை விஞ்சும் பாத்திரங்கள்!

கல்கி அவர்களின் பிரபல சரித்திர நாவலான "பொன்னியின் செல்வனை" பலரும் படித்திருப்பீர்கள். அந்த நாவல் சோழப் பேரரசனான ராஜ ராஜ சோழனின் இளமைக் கால சம்பவங்களின் அடிப்படையில் எழுதப் பட்டது.

சமீபத்தில் வெளி வந்து சக்கைப் போடு போட்ட பைரேட்ஸ் ஆப் கரீபியன் என்ற தொடர் சினிமாவில், ஜானி டெப் ஒரு கோமாளி துணை கதாப் பாத்திரமாகவே படைப்பாளிகளால் அறிமுகப் படுத்தப் பட்டாலும், அந்த பாத்திரத்திற்கு மக்கள் கொடுத்த ஆதரவுக்குப் பின்னர் அவரே அந்த சினிமாவின் கதாநாயகன் ஆக அறியப் படுகிறார். இது அந்த கதாபாத்திரத்தின் வெற்றி மற்றும் அதை ஏற்று நடித்தவரின் வெற்றியும் ஆகும்.



இப்படி இன்னும் கூட பல உதாரணங்கள் சொல்ல முடியும். தமிழ் திரையுலகில் கூட ரஜினி, சத்தியராஜ், பிரகாஷ் ராஜ் போன்றவர்கள், அவர்களின் ஆரம்ப கால திரைப்படங்களில் சிறிய பாத்திரங்களாகவும் வில்லன்களாகவும் அறிமுகமானாலும் அந்தந்த படங்களில் நடித்த கதாநாயகர்களை விட அதிகப் புகழ் பெற்றுள்ளனர். இதற்கும் அவர்களின் தனித் திறமையும் கடும் உழைப்புமே காரணம் ஆகும்.



இந்த எதிர்வினைகள் நிழல் வாழ்வுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, நிஜ வாழ்வுக்கும் பொருந்தும்.

Several years ago the TV show 60 Minutes ran a segment that tells us something important about fatherlessness.




The park rangers at a South African wildlife preserve were concerned about the slaughter of 39 rare white rhinos in their park. It turned out that the rhinos were killed not by poachers but rather by juvenile delinquents—teen elephants.



The story began a decade ago when the park could no longer sustain the increasing population of elephants. They decided to kill many of the adult elephants whose young were old enough to survive without them. And so, the young elephants grew up fatherless.



As time went on, many of these young elephants roamed together in gangs and began to do things elephants normally don't do. They threw sticks and water at rhinos and acted like neighborhood bullies. Without dominant males, the young bulls became sexually active, producing excessive testosterone and exhibiting aggressive behavior. A few young males grew especially violent, knocking down rhinos and stepping or kneeling on them, crushing the life out of them. Mafuto, the gang leader, eventually had to be killed.



The park rangers theorized that these young teen-aged elephants were acting badly because they lacked role models. The solution was to bring in a large male to lead them and to counteract their bully behaviors. Soon the new male established dominance and put the young bulls in their places. The killing stopped. The young males were mentored-and saved.

High Tide Days and Dates - Mumbai Monsoon 2010

Floods in Mumbai are attributable to simultaneous occurrence of rainfall and high tides. If, the rainfall is in excess of 200 mm in a day (24 hrs), Floods can occur anytime irrespective of tides. However, if there is moderate rainfall but the tide is in excess of 4.50 meters at the same time, the city of Mumbai is sure to get flooded.

ஒருவர் தம்மிடம் வந்து தனது காதலை உரைக்கும் போது அதனை மறுக்க நமது மனம் தெளிவாக இருக்க வேண்டியது ‌மிகவு‌ம் அவ‌சிய‌ம்.




என்ன காரணத்திற்காக காதலை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியவில்லை என்பதையும் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.



ஆனால் ஒரே ஒரு காரணத்திற்காகவே காதலை ஏற்கவில்லை என சொல்வதில் ஆபத்து உண்டு. அந்த காரணத்தை நிவர்த்தி செய்து கொண்டு வந்து மீண்டும் காதலிக்கச் சொல்லலாம்.



எந்த காரணம் என்றேத் தெரியாது... ஒருவர் மீது நமக்கு காதல் வராது. வரவும் வாய்ப்பில்லை என்று தெரியும். அப்படிப்பட்டவர் நம்மிடம் வந்து காதலைச் சொன்னால் என்ன காரணம் என்று கேட்டால் குழம்பி விடக் கூடாது.









நாகரீகமாக அவரது காதலை மறுத்துவிடுங்கள். உங்கள் மீது காதல் வராது என்பதை தெளிவாக சொல்லிவிடுங்கள். ஏதாவது ஒரு காரணத்தைக் கூறி காதலை மறுத்தால், உங்கள் காரணத்தை உடனடியாக மாற்றிக் கொண்டு வந்து உங்கள் முன் நிற்கலாம்.



அது உங்களுக்கு தர்மசங்கடத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும். எனவே, காதலை மறுக்க உங்களுக்கு உரிமை உண்டு என்பதையும், இதுவரை அவர் மீது எந்தவொரு ஈர்ப்பு வரவில்லை என்பதையும் தெளிவாக சொல்லிவிடுங்கள்.

One-minute Graduation Speech

"OK, folks you got your degrees. Now you have to move toward other goals. If you don't have any, borrow the goals of the person sitting next to you. They're probably as good as any and, besides, true success is not always getting what you think you want but learning to want what you get. Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to prepare yourself to deal with unavoidable ups and downs and unexpected turns that are almost certain to scuttle the best-laid plans.




"Take control of your life by taking control of your attitudes. Remember, pain and disappointment are inevitable, but tough times are temporary. Persist with confidence that no negative emotion can withstand your will to be happy.



"Listen to both your heart and your head. Pursue your passions, but don't confuse feelings with facts, fun with happiness, or pleasure with fulfillment. Live within your means. Don't sacrifice a thousand tomorrows for a few todays.



"Be especially careful of choices that can jeopardize your health, your reputation, or your important relationships. Safeguard your integrity. You never know when you will need it.



"Finally, don't settle for a little life. Fill it with purpose and meaning and people worthy of your love and respect."

Fear of Love

"He who fears has not been made perfect in love" (1 John 4:18, NKJV).




By and large, we all need to love and be loved. But what we don't always understand is that some of us don't get the love we expect due to our fear to love and be loved. There might be somewhere in our past that hurt us and to love again could hurt us even more.



Here's Mary for example. She persistently accused her spouse of having interest with other women. Her husband's friendliness toward the opposite sex was misinterpreted by Mary due to her own fear.



Mary's fear developed in mind when she was very young. Her father left her mother and abandoned his family due to another woman. Deep down inside, Mary is afraid that she'll experience the same situation with her spouse.



However, Mary's husband loves her to death and had no plans of separation from her. He had no history of personal interest with any other woman either. But because of Mary's fear about her husband, her intense accusations were making him go away. And had she not realized and got counseling to overcome her fear, she may have devastatingly ruined her marriage and the love she needed and cherished the most in her entire life.



Quite often, the thing we fear, we make it to happen. However, if we recognize any unresolved fear or something that maybe hurting ourselves, we earnestly need to find professional and extensive help to overcome our fear and have a perfect love of our life.

Learn From Older Co-workers

In the workforce, there are older employees and you maybe assigned to work with one or a couple of them.




But just because you are younger, you should not have that attitude of superiority over your older co-worker. Learn from their multiple years of experience on the job and designated field. Deal with them with respect and show them ample humility.



The older employees may have been doing the job while you were still struggling to finish high school. As a younger colleague, it might be a tough pill to swallow but it's the trend. Although you may know what really needs to be accomplished within a day or so, it won't hurt to ask the older co-workers for their feedback or input. What you learn from them will help you become successful in your job instead of making them undermine your position in the company.



Keep communication open if you happen to work with an older employee. You have to make them understand how you like to work. Show interest and learn what's important to them to strengthen a good relationship.



If you have things in common with the older employee, the age gap will not matter. What difference does it make hanging around with older co-workers? They can be more fun and enjoyable to be around with so invite them to your party or for a happy hour after work or on Friday evenings.

The Definition of Love.


What is the definition of love? For sure, it's a relative question, with a different meaning to each of us.







For some, the perception of love has been shaped by divorce, death, and other loss. An appetite created from the void of the aforementioned. For others, it's about birth, marriage, friendship. For many, it's affected by all of the above.






But children, in their innocence, define it differently. They use their simple words to convey a complicated emotion.

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."
